Experts warn; "Don’t let your child be a drowning statistic"

Experts are warning parents to be extra vigilant when supervising their children in and around water after study reveals drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental death in children. The NSW Study of Drowning and Near-Drowning in Children (0-16) conducted by the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network has discovered 68% of children aged 0-4 years old had a non-fatal incident while the child was unsupervised by an adult.

Preventing burns and protecting kids this Winter

June 2018 – Experts across Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network are urging parents and caregivers to be extra vigilant around hot surfaces this winter to prevent scald and contact burns in children.

Last winter, 510 children were treated across The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick for new burn injuries, with the majority caused by hot drinks and foods, including soups and noodles.

As the summer school holiday begins, doctors from Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead are urging parents and carers to be vigilant with children in and around water.
